Tax Relief
It is possible to claim tax relief on the cost of employing a Carer either if you employ one for yourself, or for another family member. A 'family member' is a spouse, child or a relative, including a relation by marriage.
The maximum amount of relief for employing a carer is €50,000 in 2010. You must claim Tax Relief at your standard or marginal rate of tax either 20% or 41% respectively each year. If two or more of you pay for the care, the relief is divided between you in proportion to the amount each paid. We can assist you in completing the HK1 Form or with any queries you may have in relation to claiming Tax Relief.
